Cover Crop Effects on Near-Surface Soil Aggregate Stability in the Southern Mississippi Valley Loess (MLRA 134)

چکیده

The use of cover crops (CC) during the agricultural fallow period has been shown to help alleviate soil compaction and provide stabilizing effects against erosion. These benefits are particularly important as many silty, loess-derived soils major land resource area (MLRA) 134, Southern Mississippi Valley Loess, have large erosion potentials. This study evaluated CC no-cover crop (NCC) treatments on a selection silt-loam in MLRA 134. Treatments were implemented Fall 2018 2019 consisted range species. Soil samples from top 10 cm collected evaluate suite properties. texture, pH, organic matter, Mehlich-3 extractable Mg, Na, Ca unaffected (P > 0.05) by treatment. Total water-stable aggregate concentration was treatment depth (i.e., 0 - 5 cm). bulk density greater •cm−3) than under (1.24 g•cm−3). Water-stable depth, but 21.5 times •g−1) 4-mm (0.05 g•g−1) size class. Study results indicate that, even among sites with variability, can consistent, short-term, positive properties, long-term commitment continuous, annual is necessary for full realization potential benefits.

Effects of crop residue cover and architecture on heat and water transfer at the soil surface

Different residue types and standing stubble versus distributed flat residues affect heat and water transfer at the soil surface to varying degrees. Understanding the effects of various residue configurations can assist in better residue management decisions, but this is complex due to various interacting influences. Therefore, modeling the effects of crop residues on heat and water movement ca...

Determination of Agricultural Sulfur Effects on the Soil Structure Using Fractal Geometery and Aggregate Stability Indices

Due to unsuitable soil physical conditions, calcareous soils, and the existence of a huge amount of sulfur in the country, the study of sulfur effects on the soil structure and other soil properties is necessary. Therefore, the effects of different rates of sulfur including: 0, 750, 1500 and 3000 kg/ha, when accompanied by Halothiobacillus neapolitanus bacteria, on the soil properties in the co...

Tillage impacts on aggregate stability and crop productivity in a clay-loam soil in central Iran

To take advantage of conservation tillage systems (including direct drilling and non-inversion) in central Iran, it is important to study the effects of different cultivation practices on soil structural stability as a physical indicator. A four-year study was conducted to investigate the effects of seven tillage systems on aggregate properties of a clay-loam soil (Calcic Cambisol) with continu...
